Liquid Rubber EPDM

Liquid Rubber EPDM can be applied directly on many types of surfaces with solid, stable, non-porous and uniform surfaces such as flat roofs. For most surfaces, primers are not necessary. As an example, some types of surfaces that can be coated with Liquid Rubber EPDM are as below ;

- EPDM Rubber Sheets / Roofs
- Galvanize Steel Panels / Roofs
- Non-Polished Aluminum Sheets / Roofs
- Steel Plates ( Painted, Unfinished, Light Corrosion )
- Fiberglass Panels / Roofs
- Wood & Plywood ( treaded with oil based sealer )

- Non-porous / steel troweled concrete surfaces / masonry
Though, Liquid Rubber EPDM can be applied using airless spray equipment, this document deals with manual applications – recommended for surfaces of less than 20,000 sq.ft.
Besides flat and sloped surfaces Liquid Rubber EPDM has enough consistency so that it can also be applied on vertical walls / surfaces, to about 20 mils dft. or thinner per coat. The prime considerations when applying on sloping / vertical surfaces should be safety and falling hazards.

Roof Repairs - EPDM

If your roof is exposed to the weather all year round. This exposure causes your roof materials to deteriorate. In general, inorganic roofing materials tend to deteriorate less rapidly from exposure than organic roofing materials. All types of roofing materials may be damaged by wind. Excessive or in some cases even minimal debris build up are common causes of roof leaks.
The EPDM Roof Coatings has extensive ability in repairing all types of roofs, including metal roofs, concrete roofs, flat roofs, rubber roofs, builtups, modified bitumen, EPDM or Single Ply. EPDM has many features which let roof not to crack .
EPDM coatings' high resistance to wind damage has also proven to be an increasingly desirable attribute. Architects, roof consultants and contractors have come to depend on EPDM's time tested, long-term performance for roof leaks repair.

Multiple Coats of Liquid Rubber EPDM

For roofs and other non-immersion applications, one coat of 20 mils dft of Liquid Rubber EPDM is adequate, however should for some reason, you require more than 20 mils thickness, you may apply multiple coats of 20 mils dft. to build up thicker membrane and for extra protection.
For multiple coats, apply the first coat as described above and allow to partially cure after approximately 12 to 18 hours in 70 deg. F. Apply a second coat (within this 12 to 18 hour window), again, using a spreading rate of 40 sq.ft. a gallon, as applied in the first coat. On curing this will form a thicker, stronger, and more homogeneous, bond between the first and second layers.
Repeat this process for subsequent multiple coats.
You will also be able to coat over cured existing Liquid Rubber EPDM, years after the first application. Clean and dry the surface as described above under Surface Preparations. No primers are necessary when re coating over Liquid Rubber EPDM.

Steps for RV Roof Repair

Here's a step by step description of the RV Roof Repair Procedure:
1. Remove all roof top fixtures, roof vents, plumbing vents, A/C etc. A heat gun is a great help to soften the roof coat around the fixtures so that it can be scraped off.
2. Remove all edge moldings around the rim of the roof, then remove the staples holding the metal roof to the sidewall edge. The overhanging lip is straightened out to allow the roof metal to be rolled up without tearing it. If you will be reusing the roof metal, take it down carefully while rolled up.
3. Remove and discard the insulation if it is wet. You'll now see all the exposed wiring that runs through the roof. Make a careful diagram of where all the wires run, and the colors, so that they can be replaced exactly where they were. A Polaroid or digital camera is useful for this. Remove all interior light fixtures and anything else that is attached to the ceiling.
4. If the damage is confined to one area, it is sometimes possible to cut the roof to replace only the damaged portion. The roof assembly is usually screwed or nailed down from the top, and attached to the top of the side walls and interior cabinets. Once these screws or fasteners are removed, the roof is lifted off. (The roof wooden rafters and the interior ceiling panels are assembled on the floor and then lifted onto the side walls when the trailer is built at the factory.)
5. Remove any dry rot weakened wood members and copy them exactly or build a complete new framework that copies the original to exact same measurements. Attach new ceiling panels to the framework with glue and staples, using slide in battens to cover the joints between the panels. Mark where the light fixtures are to go and drill access holes for the light wiring. Also cut out the roof vent holes and other through the roof fixture holes.
6. Lift the completed roof and attach it to the sidewalls and interior cabinets. Re-install the wiring and check to make sure all the lights work at this time. Re-install the insulation and then the roof metal. If you have constructed the roof frame correctly, all the holes will line up with the appropriate holes in the frame.
7. Reinstall the moldings and roof top fixtures using new putty tape and then roof coat the fixture edges.
8. Re-install all the interior accessories.

EPDM Liquid Rubber Application

Application is best with a squeegee and a fine nap roller. Before applying, mix the pre-measured catalyst by following label directions. A single application is preferable to multiple coats. Touchups may be applied as desired after initial film has cured and surface is first wiped with solvent. To insure its effectiveness it must be applied at a 20 mil layer. Apply with brush around flashing and edges using long, slow strokes. On flat surfaces, material can be poured, spread with a squeegee and then evened out with a short nap roller. The Product will level itself when sufficient material has been applied. Liquid EPDM Rubber Roof should not be applied on cream color ALPHA rubber. For Further Information visit buyliquidroof.com.
